Alcoa's Adopted Flower Garden

On Saturday morning, May10, employees, family members, and friends are invited to plant flowers in Alcoa's adopted floral bed at the intersection of General Robinson and Anderson Streets near the Alcoa Corporate Center.  Alcoa volunteers will join forces with the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy and 4,000  local residents and 29 corporate sponsors to create  one of  more than 140  beautiful flower gardens  that enhance communities of all sizes and locations throughout 19 Pennsylvania counties.   The WPC Community Gardens and Greenspace Program volunteers donate more than 20,000 hours per year to create gardens that celebrate the region's beautiful landscape and enhance its quality of life. More than half of these volunteers are children and youth, an indication of the long-range viability of the program.

WPC's community gardens have become a signature feature of the western Pennsylvania landscape. Appearing in varied locations with many different configurations, the gardens provide a backdrop and enhancement for other cultural and civic assets. The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation estimates that more than 3 million people per day see the results  of  this volunteer effort.

In addition to the initial planting on May  10 , volunteers are also needed to help maintain the garden throughout the growing season (May - October).  This involves minimal weeding and watering of the garden using the site's drip irrigation system.

If you would like to participate on May 10  and/or throughout the growing season to help maintain the garden, please reply by Monday, April  28.  We think you'll find your participation to be a fun and rewarding experience.

Participants will receive additional information prior to the event.  In the meantime, please contact Don Moeslein (Ext. 553-2153) if you have questions or comments. Thank you!

SEPTEMBER

Alcoa Singers

ALCOA SINGERS' 2008 SEASON BEGINS

The Alcoa Singers Need You!!!!

The Alcoa singers begin their 47th season in September.  The first rehearsal is from noon to one o'clock on Thursday September 11th at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church on the North Shore, near Building 2 Allegheny Center.  We rehearse each Thursday until December, when we begin our eight performances.  Our performances are fun, end before the busy week before Christmas, and are very appropriate for the season of giving.  Among them are lunch time for the kids at Martin Luther King Learning Academy, Miriam Womens shelter near Duquesne University, a women's shelter in the east end, and the Alcoa Holiday Party.  So join us and start singing Christmas songs in September, and enjoy watching the faces of folks who really appreciate us taking the time to share with them during the special Christmas season.

For information please contact Ed Johnston.

    NON-PARC ORGANIZED TRIPS:

        GUIDELINES

The PARC Program Committee has been asked about promoting PARC member participation in group tours that have not been organized by the PARC Program Committee.
An example is the National Parks trip, organized by a PARC member, where anyone can participate and groups are welcome.  While such trips will not be sponsored by PARC, we have developed the following guidelines to permit ‘advertising’ a specific trip in the PARC newsletter and on the web site.  These are:

      1. the trip must be organized by a PARC member or an Alcoa employee,
      2. that person must participate in the trip, and
      3. if there are any trip rebates, including group discounts and free trips for having a certain number of attendees, these must be equally shared by all participants.

        CURRENT TRIPS
